Roy and Carter met in Florida in 2012, and their relationship to largely have consisted of text messages and e-mails.

Her defense attorney, Joseph Catalado, argued that Carter should get five years probation for the negligent killing.
After Monday’s hearing in court, said Catalado that the case was not finished and that their argument about the first grunnlovstillegget should be taken up at the federal level.
He added that his client suffered from anorexia and was depressed when she had her last conversation with Roy. During the trial argued Catalado also with the fact that Roy had a history of depression and attempted suicide, and that he was determined to end his own life.
