in view of the escalating fight between President Nicolás Maduro and the self-appointed interim President, Juan Guaidó in, the Venezuelan government has lobbied the European Union for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
“We can have different opinions about the reasons for the crisis, but it unites us to the same goal: We want to contribute to a peaceful and democratic solution,” said EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini during the meeting of the so-called contact group in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo. The contact group consists of EU and Latin American countries.

“looking for The solution to the crisis must come from the Venezuelan people,” said Mogherini. “We believe, however, that an international Initiative is important to support a peaceful and democratic solution to the current crisis by means of a free, transparent and credible presidential election.”
