It could be a crucial day for the struggle for power in Venezuela: The Opposition today wants to aid make it into the country, but the armed forces are instructed to prevent. The fear of violence is growing.
Venezuela’s self-proclaimed interim President Juan Guaidó wants to pick up the humanitarian aid in person: Surprisingly, the leader of the opposition showed up at the charity concert “Venezuela Aid Live” in the Colombian border town of Cúcuta. His visit was an open provocation against his opponent, the head of state, Nicolás Maduro: Because of an ongoing investigation Guaidó not allowed to leave the country actually does.
“The question is: We have come here to Colombia, if the air space is blocked and the vessel traffic is prohibited and the roads are blocked? We are here because the soldiers have helped us. This is the truth,” said Guaidó in front of the warehouse with the goods on the side of Colombia’s President, Ivan Duque, the Chilean head of state Sebastián Piñera and Paraguayan President Mario Abdó.
On the border bridge Tienditas between Colombia and Venezuela had supplied the opponents and supporters of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in the evening a musical slugfest. While on the Colombian side renowned Latin promoted American musicians such as Luis Fonsi, or Juanes at the charity concert to raise funds for humanitarian aid, called for 300 metres government loyal singer away on the other side of the border: “hands off Venezuela”.
