Sint-Niklaas Sint-Niklaas now has its own ‘bus’. To go for a ride, one should have a dive suit donning because the bus was Thursday sunk on the bottom of the pond of recreation park De Ster. There, the bus will be part of a oefenparcours for divers.
The pond of the recreation park De Ster is already a few years a hotspot for divers. “Both the fire brigade when the army come here regularly to practice,” says director Pieter Debaets. “Divers come from all around to here to practice. Currently, there is on the bottom of the pond even an old ambulance and speedboat. We wanted the oefenparcours for a while to expand with something attractiefs and this old bus seemed to us to be cut.”
It is a old bus that all service has been done as training material for fire and police. The discarded vehicle of 8 tonnes was Thursday morning sunk to the deepest point of the pond, about 10 metres below the water surface. “Here are a lot of preparations to pre gone”, said Debaets. “The bus is of course completely stripped, but also scoured and stripped of batteries and oil. We want to ensure that the water quality of our pond this would be affected.”
