Denmark’s best badminton player Viktor Axelsen, is ready for Sunday’s finals in the India Open.
It was a matter of fact, when he was in the semifinals defeated indian Kashyap Parupalli with the digits 21-11, 21-17.
On paper, was the andenseedede Abreu in an affordable task against Parupalli, who only ranks as the world number 55, but the statistics spoke for Parupalli could tease the Danish storfavorit.
Thus had Parupalli won their two previous meetings, but that was back in 2011 and 2015, and Abreu showed Saturday that he is now at a higher level.
After an even opening grabbed Abreu the first of a series of points and went from position 3-3 to lead at 8-3.
Admittedly answered the opponent again to win the next three points, but it didn’t change that Abreu had created a comfortable gap that he could build on top of the rest of the set.
Abreu was constantly changing 11 to 9 in 17-9, and secured shortly after the set after 14 minutes of play.
the Second set was different right, and most indians matched now Abreu. The dane came good enough at 8-6, but Parupalli brought then in front 10-8, as Abreu took the error on a challenge.
Parupalli also led 14-10, but then had Abreu netkanten with him in a few duels and was once again taken over by winning five balls in a row.
Parupalli was not, however, how to close down. He fought in front 17-15, but then found Axelsen an extra gear.
the Dane utilised a few indian mistakes and beat even a couple of fine winners, and by grabbing the last six points won Axelsen the set 21-17.
In Sunday’s finale await even an indian in the guise of Srikanth Kidambi, who is seeded as number three in the tournament.
