Since Danette Hague was ten years old, exploded in her home in Iowa because of a gas leak. She survived, but was heavily burned on 70 percent of the body and the face.

Her sister, DeAnn Cheney, who has spoken with CBS Denver, remember, how as children, every year as Miss America-the competition and dreamed of one day being with.

– So when she first saw it (the competition in tv, red.) after the fire, she can remember that she felt like a small, broken girl, telling DeAnn to the local media.

But now, 38 years after the violent accident, which led to a sea of plastic surgeries, pain and physical as well as psychological scars, Danette Hague participated in the Miss Colorado-a fun.

For her meant the competition is an opportunity to share everything she has learned about beauty through his life.

– the Scars are scars. We have all been wounded by someone or something that has left scars. The reason for the scars are may differ, but the healing is, in my experience the same, says Danette Hague to Ekstra Bladet.

For daily work the 48-year-old mother of two as a motivation speaker, and in his lectures, on his website and on Instagram, she uses just her experiences from her challenging life to inspire others who will not ‘stuck in a life filled with scars’, as she describes it.

I have a program, where I inspire women and teenage girls to find their inner beauty. And last year I got the spiritual push that was needed to stand in the competition, ” says the 48-year-old mother, who lives in Windsor, Colorado.

Danette Hague felt that she was not faithful to his inspiration to others if she did not dare to put up. So, in november she enrolled in.

And although she did not win the contest, it was a huge victory for her to be with.

– It was a fantastic experience from start to finish. By participating in the competition met I a smashed barnedrøm to be in a beauty pageant. I honored the beautiful, strong woman, I go along has been, and I shared my inspiration with the other women I competed with, tells Danette Hague to Ekstra Bladet.
