25 years after his concert at the then-besieged Sarajevo, the British singer Bruce Dickinson, has received the honorary citizen of the town. The award given on Saturday, mayor Igor Gavric praised the “courage and humanity” of the singer of the Heavy Metal Band Iron Maiden.

Dickinson came in December 1994, during the Bosnian conflict in Sarajevo, “to say no and to stop the worst war in Europe since the Second world war, to enter”.

At the concert in a former synagogue, the Rockstar of the population, have given new hope, said Gavric. The people would have “believed” that they “will survive and that the city will survive”. The singer was reached during a Solo tour for his Album “Balls To Picasso” with one of the UN soldiers shielded aid convoy to Sarajevo.

“Everything can do musicians

Dickinson, was presented at the end of February of this year in the Zurich people’s house, his autobiography, was moved by the award. “In our world, most things take on the social networks five minutes,” he said. “It is unbelievable that almost 25 years later, the concert in Sarajevo for the people means so much to me that this symbolic prize is awarded.”

He had the war not stop, said Dickinson in connection to the ceremony. “But we have ensured that the people felt there, where you were, better, and ultimately that is all, what can you do as a musician.”

During the 44-month siege of Sarajevo around 10’000 people were killed. A total of 100’000 people were during the Bosnian war killed, 2.2 million were displaced.

When then resulting documentary film, “Scream for me Sarajevo” is the story of the smuggling of the musician to the last, in the Public-kept-secret venue, with almost nothing to delivery according to Plan. (nag/AFP)
