In march of this year, the Swedish government submitted a bill concerning the ban on smoking in several public places. The proposal was to ban smoking in outdoor cafes, train platforms, bus stops, and playgrounds. The proposal included, among other things, new rules for the marketing of cigarettes and the labelling of flavoured snuff.
After that the EU-commission had submitted comments against the proposal ended up in a freeze of three months. But in the last week, the parliamentary socialutskott positive to large parts of the bill and urged the parliament to vote yes to a ban on smoking in public places.
Parliament accepted the committee’s proposal.
The new law will enter into force on 1 July 2019.
