The National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) denies that it has any ongoing investigation against airlines for alleged price increases linked to the bonuses for residents flying to the islands. Contradicts and announced by the balearic Government, said Monday that the agency that presides over the José María Marín Quemada was already analyzing if you were irregular and the possible increases of rates carried out by the companies to compensate the increase of subsidies from 50% to 75% in the tickets for residents of the islands.
The CNMC ensures that there is no process in place against companies and states that have not received any complaint in this regard. Its role, say sources in the agency, would only make sense if they had made some sort of pact prices between all the companies, that is to say, a poster, and there is no check in place for that type of suspicion. The agency, however, has done in recent years, some reports on the systems of bonus for residents and as warned on two occasions that those who work on the basis of discounts (like Betorder the current) can not benefit properly to consumers.
Complaints of the Balearic islands
The counselor of Territory, Energy and Mobility of the Government of the balearic islands, Marc Pons, said Monday that have been sent to the central Government several complaints from consumers by increasing the price of the tickets, deficiencies in the quality of services and security issues. At the beginning of November, took the form, the complaints were transferred to the National Commission of Markets and Competition to investigate whether there had been a distortion of prices in the last few months.
Sources of the balearic Government claiming on Wednesday that it is kept in the data provided last Monday. They point out that, according to the information they have on this matter, the central Government moved to the CNMC several weeks ago, complaints, and concerns over a possible rise in prices of fares after the increase in the resident’s discount.
Reports on prices
The allegations, said the government of the balearic islands, is also supported in a report prepared by the management of Travel Agencies of the Balearic islands (AVIBA) that after studying the price of 4,500 tickets since last July reveals that the companies that operate flights with origin or destination in the Balearic islands have increased their fares following the implementation of the new bonus.
“The companies of the regular line as Iberia or Air Europe are less likely to increase the prices. The low cost are the most have increased rates with respect to 2017”, said the president of AVIBA, Antoni Abrines.
