A cruise ship with 1300 passengers on Board, ran off the Norwegian coast in distress. The “Viking Sky” have only one functioning engine, and the Wind was “quite strong”, said the head of the police operation, Tor Andre Franck. The ship should be evacuated.
Against 16.30 o’clock had been brought to the first 100 people in the country. “This is going to take until all are evacuated,” said police chief Frank. According to rescue five helicopters are in use, each of which can carry 15 to 20 people.
so Far, the ship was “stable,” said a spokeswoman for the rescue forces. “It threw out the anchor, and one of the engines is operating.” According to rescuers, there is only one slightly injured. So far, the rescue operation had been carried out well, said another spokesman for the North wegischen broadcaster NRK.
The radio station NRK showed footage of the “Viking Sky” in a strong swell in the dangerous part of coast of Hustadvika, where there are numerous small Islands and reefs. The incident had occurred about two kilometers before the coast.
The südnorweg of rescue service said the ship had stopped because of the drive problems in case of adverse weather conditions, an emergency call and driving in the direction of the coast. Several helicopters and ships were on the way to the area. The Hustadvika waters are located in Kristiansund on the West Central coast of Norway and is considered as a dangerous area, in the frequent ship accidents happened. (dpa/AFP)
