Animals He looked huge to matter, because it stood for years on his bucketlist: diving with great white sharks. But when the Antwerp-based photographer Thomas Van Puymbroeck (34) four weeks ago in South-Africa have arrived on one of the hottest hotspots in the world to the majestic animals in the wild to see, it went not quite as he had thought.

Almost 3 weeks had to his adventure take, the time to a whole series of photographs to worry about the animal, where the employee of the aquarium in Antwerp Zoo have a weakness for: the white shark. But that was not evident.

“I started my journey all the way in the west, in false bay, near Cape town,” says Thomas. “Seal Island is known as one of the best places in the world to white sharks to spot. They jump even out of the water, what great images it can produce. But they there were already 2 months, white shark seen to have. Local residents told me that every day they sail, and other sharks to notice, but not white.” the

Then he continued to Gansbaai, 100 miles away. But there he was, the same story to hear. “In the whole of the bay were the residents last month in a grand total of 4 white sharks to have seen”, Thomas continues. “There also ran my search on a damp squib.” (read on below)
