A world that is more connected and full of growth opportunities. That is, roughly, the view that the executive chairman of Telefónica, José María Álvarez-Pallete, has offered this Thursday at the presentation of the next strategic plan of the company. In his speech to the more than 900 officers present at the Caja Magica in Madrid, Pallete has pulled out of chest by the management of the past few years and has anticipated what is to come. “Very shortly there’s going to be 100,000 million of people and things connected, and that what that means is that our data traffic will be multiplied by four times in mobile, and by three times in fixed,” he assured the president of teleco.
His intervention has been initiated with a review of the numbers of the company that presides over from 2016. In that sense, it has highlighted that Telefónica has spent three years growing in the main economic variables, something that “was not there from nine years ago,” and that has lowered its debt by more than 10,000 million. Pallete has also been shown proud a fiber network a “leader in Europe and third in the world.”

As the only shadow has cited the performance on the stock market of the group, as has been said, it improves on a lot of the running of a sector, that of telecommunications, that it is “the sector that has the worst behaved on the Stock exchange in the last two years.” The price of Telefónica has closed this Thursday in the Ibex 35, with an appreciation of 0.33%, although so far this year have been left to 1.38%.
the executive president of the Spanish multinational company has attributed that bad up to that “investors believe that the return of this industry is decreasing”. And has blamed part of it to a “regulation of the old regime” that, in their opinion, supposes that Europe has “more than 450 mobile operators,” while in USA and China there are only “four or five”. It added that, Akcebet against his judgment, the telecommunications companies are considered to be frequently “utilities” (public service companies). The vicious circle closes when, in addition “it seems that the telecommunications have to be deflationary”, contrary to what happens, as has been estimated Pallete, with supplies of gas, electricity or water that have risen in price in recent years.
But despite this, the management has drawn a future full of opportunities for the company. “The revolution that will occur in the connectivity of data is tremendous,” he assured at the same time that diagnosed with the need for “faster networks, more capable, much more safe and much more simple”. For this Pallete has identified connectivity as one of the aspects in which you can grow the Telephone, along with “the services on connectivity”, “the world of big data,” and “the world of the intelligence [artificial] cognitive”. To capture these “four waves”, Pallete has encouraged the management has to take questions as if you are in the market suitable. But she has said that Telefónica has the culture right company -“we have always adapted”- in addition to a “distribution capacity huge” in its own products or third parties.
The discourse has highlighted some of the ethical challenges that will lead the technological revolution. “Is it lawful to viralise the content of a news story that it is obvious that it is false and affects the public opinion?”, it has been asked by the manager to quote the fake news (false news). Has also cited the “right to disconnect” of the employees of the group, a thing that, as has been said, Telefónica has undertaken to comply with the unions. With all of this, Pallete has completed by calling the responsible of the firm to “capture” sustainable growth and launching the idea-force of this new strategic plan-which is entitled Reconnects and replaces the previous one, we Chose everything (2015)- with a calling to make the world “more human by connecting the life of the people.”
