The unemployment in Germany rose at the beginning of 2018, as usual, due to seasonal changes. The number of unemployed climbed in January to 2.4 million, the Federal employment Agency (BA) announced. This, however, is the lowest for January since the reunification.
In comparison to the previous month, the number of job seekers increased by 196.000, compared to the previous year, however, it decreased by 165,000. The unemployment rate increased by 0.4 points to 5.3 percent.
BA-in-chief Detlef Scheele commented positively. The unemployment had increased in January. Employment subject to social insurance will continue but their growth rate and “the demand of companies for new employees remains at a very high level”.
The significant increase is for this time of year is quite common. In many outdoor occupations such as construction or agriculture – is working less in the Winter. The seasonal adjusted number of jobseekers fell to 2,263 million. Therefore, approximately 2000 men and women were without work in December – the number was entirely due to a decline in the East. In the West, they remained unchanged.
