The “Africa strategy” of the Federal Ministry of research up to its name. The green member of the Bundestag Kai Gehring criticized. He refers to an answer of the Ministry to a request of the Greens in the Bundestag to the strategy, which was launched in 2014 and in the context of since then, projects in the amount of 350 million euros were funded.
For especially “alarming” holds Gehring, since 2014, the interest of German scientists and students interested in an exchange with Africa drops, even though the global mobility grows. In fact, 504, researchers and students from Germany were received in 2014 to Africa, while in 2017 were only 412. From Africa to Germany about three times as many go annually, here, too, the Numbers are down, however.

Gehring missing, however, is a red thread in the sponsored Africa-projects; these were not much more than a “hodgepodge”. In the new edition in 2018, with a focus on “social development”, it had previously given lacking, especially. “The task of the Federal government would be to support the promotion of education and research, democratic structures in the countries of Africa,” explains Gehring.
