Canadian Pierce LePage won his first world title in the decathlon on Saturday at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, ahead of his compatriot, Olympic champion Damian Warner.
With 8,909 points, LePage does better than his silver medal gleaned a year ago at the Worlds in Eugene in the United States.
Warner, crowned in Tokyo in 2021, must be content with second place, obtained in the last event, for a total of 8,804 points.
He is ahead of Grenadin Lindon Victor, in bronze with 8,756 points.
LePage, 27, positions herself one year before the Olympics by signing the best performance of the season in the decathlon.
The German Neugebauer, in the lead after the first day of racing, finally took fifth place (8.645 pts).
The Frenchman Kevin Mayer, defending champion, had given up on Friday after two tests, hitting the left Achilles tendon.
