The Wages of Fear by Henri-Georges Clouzot in 1953, with Yves Montand, Charles Vanel, Véra Clouzot, Folco Lulli, Peter van Eyck…
This remake must be released on the Netflix platform. It is produced by Labyrinthe Films and TF1 studio. As for the screenplay, it was co-written by Julien Leclercq and Hamid Ioulia. For the director of the Braqueurs series, this new reading of the eponymous novel The Wages of Fear by Georges Arnaud (1949) represents quite a challenge. He admitted it in an official press release: “Bringing these talents together around the reboot of such a film, for worldwide distribution with Netflix, forces me to put all my heart and all my guts into it. The ambition is immense”.
The pitch of the film tells the crazy adventure of four men ready to take insane risks, that is to say, ferry trucks filled to the brim with nitroglycerin, to earn a substantial bounty. Faced with danger, some will show their courage and others their spinelessness… When it was released, this thriller by Clouzot (Le Corbeau, Quai des Orfèvres, Les diabolics, L’Enfer…) was a triumph by attracting cinemas some seven million spectators. The critics, as enthusiastic as the public, showered him with awards. In addition to the two prestigious awards from the Cannes Film Festival already mentioned, the film will receive the Golden Bear in Berlin and the Méliès Prize. A record that remains unmatched to this day.
