The writer Philippe Claudel became president of the Académie Goncourt on Monday evening following a close election, this association which awards the famous literary prize announced in a press release.
The author of Gray Souls, 62, received five votes against four for another member of the Academy, Pierre Assouline, in succession to Didier Decoin, 79, who gave up the position after having held it for four years.
