With 450,000 spectators in one week, the robots of Transformers – Rise of the beasts have taken the lead in a French box office dominated by American blockbusters, according to figures published Wednesday by CBO Box Office. Five years after the previous one, The Last Knight, this new installment of Transformers, now pitting three factions of robots against each other, the Maximals, the Autobots and the Decepticons, also got off to a good start in the United States and China, and collected 170 million dollars in revenue on its first weekend, according to its distributor, Paramount.
The last Spider-Man in animated version, Spider-Man – Across the spider-verse, is relegated to second position, approaching the million spectators in two weeks on the screens. The live-action version of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, directed by Rob Marshall, fell to third place, but still attracted 250,000 spectators. In fourth place, Fast and Furious X now exceeds two million fans in four weeks on screens.
The only French film to survive this top 5, L’Amour et les Forêts, by Valérie Donzelli with Virginie Efira and Melvil Poupaud, about a toxic relationship, should soon exceed 500,000 spectators.
