For 17 years and the release of his first film as director of actors La Maison du Bonheur, Dany Boon had never attracted so few spectators in the first week. Released on April 19, Life for Real attracted 351,479 spectators, a poor performance for the actor-director who is one of the favorites of the French.
Unfortunately for him all records, for better or for worse, are made to be broken. Life for Real, which nevertheless brings together Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kad Merad around him, constitutes the worst start for the director and puts a stop to the series of successes of Dany Boon, who with his miraculous Welcome to the Ch ’tis (2008), had dethroned La Grande Vadrouille by Gérard Oury and his magical duo by Funès-Bourvil.
Life for Real by Dany Boon in 2023, with Dany Boon, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kad Merad…
This first result at the box office may surprise because the pitch of Dany Boon’s social comedy had a priori everything to please. Former GO of Club Med, Dany Boon will (again) fall in love with his great childhood crush, Charlotte Gainsbourg. Something to appeal to lovers of romantic comedy.
It is perhaps the less spectacular character of this film which does not attract crowds. It is also perhaps only a relatively timid start. anyway, it is impossible to smash records at each outing. For the record, in the first week Welcome to the Ch’tis had attracted nearly 4.5 million spectators in 2008 for its national release and Supercondriaque more than 2 million boonesque aficionados in 2014. Pharaonic results which now belong to the past.
