The British production company Carnival Films and the American production and direction company Focus Features made the third part of Downton Abbey official on Monday on their social networks. The trilogy is adapted from the British television series of the same name, broadcast from 2010 to 2016. The six seasons trace the story of an aristocratic English family, the Crawleys, and their servants, at the beginning of the 20th century.

Julian Fellowes, screenwriter of the series and the first two films Downton Abbey (2019) and Downton Abbey: A new era (2022) – which grossed more than $287 million worldwide – reprises his role for the third opus. The film will be directed by Simon Curtis, who had already participated in the second, while the first was directed by Michael Engler. The producers of the project are Gareth Neame, Liz Trubridge and Julian Fellowes himself.

Among the actors already known from the historical drama, we will find Paul Giamatti, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera and Douglas Reith. Dominic West will reprise his character of Guy Dexter in the second film.

Some newcomers will also be appearing in the third opus: Joely Richardson (The Gentlemen), Alessandro Nivola (Disobedience), Simon Russell Beale (The Death of Stalin) and Arty Froushan (Carnival Row). The film will be distributed by Focus Features and Universal Pictures International. No plot details have yet been revealed.
