Eddy de Pretto is back. His new single, R V has just been unveiled at 9 p.m., during a live on his Instagram account. On his social networks, the singer announced that he was taking a “new turn” in his artistic career. “Neither in porn, nor in grammar, nor in theater, jokes Eddy in one of his stories. I remain music for the pleasure of all. Despite everything, the singer remains true to himself, always wanting to denounce and change the world around him.
From Freddie Mercury to Elton John, passing Andy Warhol, Verlaine, Rimbaud, the drag-queen RuPaul or the writer Jean Genet, the singer lists the men in his life, those who inspired him. If all are famous thanks to their artistic work, this is not the only reason why the interpreter of Fête de trop quotes them here. All these men are or were homosexuals. “Dead or alive, I hear them guide me”, “help me get out the rainbow that sinks again and again under the rubble”, sings Eddy de Pretto. The list may seem a little redundant, but the barely two-minute track quickly becomes heady.
This is not the first time that Eddy de Pretto has spoken about his experience in music. Telling himself has even become his trademark. In his album À tous les bâtards, released in March 2021, the singer spoke of his childhood in Créteil, his beginnings in the music industry, his homosexuality too. In particular in Caroline, his piece with a double meaning that he had decrypted with Europe 1. “The notion of cocaine and the notion of heterosexual girl are there”, confirmed the singer. But his desire to denounce has not always been unanimous.
After singing in a church in June 2021, Eddy de Pretto was the victim of an extremely violent surge of hatred and homophobia. Death threats were even sent to him. Last October, seventeen people were arrested for aggravated online harassment at the Paris Criminal Court. In total, eleven of them were given suspended sentences ranging from 3 to 6 months in prison.
