The new animated film from Pixar studios (Disney), Elementary, took the lead at the French box office upon its release, dethroning The Flash, according to figures released Wednesday by CBO Box-Office. For its first week of exploitation, this fantastic tale, which has immigration as its backdrop, brought together more than 420,000 spectators, a level however lower than the number of entries made by the previous film by the same director, Peter Sohn, Arlo’s Journey (2015). Elementary, which takes place in a city where the inhabitants are made up of water, earth, fire or air, had been broadcast in preview at the end of the Cannes Film Festival.
Another animated film takes second place: the blockbuster Spider-Man: across the Spider-verse, which is approaching 1.5 million tickets sold in four weeks. This new version combines the timeless pencil stroke of comics with the latest computer-assisted animation techniques.
In third position, the superhero of The Flash, with Ezra Miller, counts 573,239 admissions in two weeks, followed by Transformers, which accumulates more than 821,000 admissions in three weeks. In fifth place, Asteroid City by Wes Anderson, also presented on the Croisette, started with 117,498 admissions for its first week in French cinemas, below the performance achieved by the American director’s feature films.
