The Cannes Film Festival announced on Friday the open-air screening of several films, including the adaptation of the humorous comic Silex and the City, to which François Hollande lent his voice to a character. Four first titles have been announced for the Cinéma de la plage, an open-air program open to the public, including the animated film directed by Jul, which includes an unusual voice cast: in addition to the former President of the Republic, Julie Gayet , Stéphane Bern, Guillaume Gallienne, Michel Vuillermoz, Sophia Aram, Raphaël Quenard, and Amélie Nothomb lent their voices to the various protagonists. A great success in contemporary humorous comics, with nine albums selling more than a million copies, Silex and the City was first adapted into a series of 180 animated episodes broadcast on Arte.

Another highlight of the open-air screenings, the festival announced the arrival of Italian actress Valeria Golino for The Art of Joy, adaptation of the novel of the same title by Goliarda Sapienza. The first episode of this project with Italian actress and director Jasmine Trinca and Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi, conceived as a series but which will be released theatrically in Italy, will be screened.

The festival will be held from May 14 to 25, with filmmakers like Francis Ford Coppola, Yorgos Lanthimos and Jacques Audiard competing for the Palme d’Or. The festival has yet to announce the composition of its jury, chaired by the director of Barbie, the American Greta Gerwig.
