Deckchairs installed in the middle of the Cour Carrée du Louvre, facing a giant screen and under a starry sky. MK2 is once again partnering with the Louvre Museum to offer, from July 6 to 9, four open-air cinema evenings. From 7:30 p.m. each evening, the 2,500 or so lucky ones drawn will be able to enjoy the various activities before attending the screening of the session at 10:45 p.m.
This year, Italy will be in the spotlight, in a nod to the Louvre exhibition “Naples in Paris. The Louvre invites the Capodimonte Museum” which opens on June 7 in the largest museum in the world. The Louvre will receive on this occasion more than seventy works of art belonging to the Neapolitan museum. “We are going to recreate the decor that we see in the film Cinema Paradiso by Guiseppe Tornatore with Philippe Noiret,” says Elisha Karmitz, general manager of the MK2 group at Le Parisien.
The festival will open with Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas starring Ray Liotta, Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci screened in 4K to mark the centenary of Warner Studios. Rewarded in 1964 by the Oscar for best international film, the Franco-Italian film Huit et demi by Federico Fellini will be broadcast on Friday July 7. Sergio Leone’s Western Once Upon a Time in the West will punctuate the evening of Saturday 8 July. The festival will end with the Franco-Italian feature film by René Clément Plein soleil, shot on an island in the Bay of Naples where Alain Delon plays opposite Marie Laforêt.
At the beginning of the evening before the screening of these classics, the Festival Paradiso will offer dance lessons, including rock, swing and salsa, given by Paris Université Club. DJs will mix every evening and will be followed by concerts or shows, such as that of the cabaret troupe Madame Arthur or the concert of the singer Corine.
A free event open to all, Festival Paradiso is accessible through a lottery system. It will be possible to try your luck from June 7 at 12 p.m. until July 4 at 12 p.m. on www.mk2festivalparadiso.com. There will be three draws: June 21 and 28 and July 4, and those who were not selected will automatically be re-entered into the race for subsequent draws. Note that each participant can register up to four people (two adults and two children).
