For all classical music lovers, the concert not to be missed on this national holiday will take place at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. From 9 p.m., distinguished guests will be legion on the Champ-de-Mars stage for this free event which attracts several thousand people each year.
The set includes some French big names such as the soprano Marie-Laure Garnier, lyrical artist revelation of the Victoire de la musique 2021, Stéphanie d’Oustrac, talented Breton mezzo-soprano, or Ludovic Tézier, bass baritone, twice elected lyrical artist of the year at the Victoires de la Musique (2006 and 2013). For foreign virtuosos, the German tenor Jonas Kaufmann and the Lebanese soprano Ermonela Jaho are invited.
They will be accompanied by the Orchester national de France, the choir and the mastery of Radio France, under the direction of Cristian Măcelaru. Two exceptional soloists will also be on the programme: Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov and Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang. For those who cannot be present, the concert will be broadcast live on France 2 and France Inter.
This year 2023 will mark the end of a cycle in honor of the values of the Republic. After freedom in 2021 and equality in 2022, the theme of the concert will be fraternity.
The repertoire will be classical and varied with the finale of Symphony No. 9 by Ludwig Van Beethoven, the Ave Verum Corpus by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or the Hungarian March from La Damnation de Faust by Hector Berlioz. At the end of the traditional Marseillaise which will close the concert, a spectacular fireworks display lasting almost thirty minutes will light up the Parisian sky.
