“New romance” or eroticized romantic literature is a fundamental phenomenon for many readers, a windfall for publishers. And a new territory to conquer for a few feathers in need of notoriety. Eight months after leaving the government, Marlène Schiappa launches into the genre tells L’Obs. The former Secretary of State in charge of Gender Equality and then Minister for Citizenship is preparing to release a book in May from Editions Fayard.

“It’s House of Cards meets ‘new romance,’” declared Isabelle Saporta, the CEO of the publishing house who is about to be fired amid the takeover of the group by Vincent Bolloré. Politics with just the right amount of romance and eroticism. Nothing to scare the ex-politician who, from 2017 to 2022, published no less than 10 works, between novels and essays. His previous novel, His way of being mine, in 2021, already surfed on romantic literature, telling a love story between a modern-day heroine and a political journalist from Le Figaro.

Under the pseudonym Marie Minelli, which she assumed, she practiced erotic literature, publishing regularly with La Musardine, a publisher specializing in the genre. Dare sex friends, Dare the female orgasm, Sex, lies and hot suburbs… notably make up the farandole of titles published.

The novel, scheduled for May, will address “the backstage of politics”, where “a female minister” will be featured, again according to L’Obs. A work which is part of Fayard’s desire, focusing on the new feminist romance, to offer books telling the stories of “strong, combative and non-submissive heroines”.
