Film buffs were fervently awaiting the first images of Megalopolis directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which will be in competition in a few weeks at Cannes. Without really revealing anything about the plot, the first trailer shows in just over two minutes a spectacular scene in which we see the hero of this anticipation film, played by Adam Driver.

Megalopolis by Francis Ford Coppola in 2024, with Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Giancarlo Esposito, Dustin Hoffman…

Le pacte, the company responsible for distribution in France, took advantage of the publication of the first trailer for Megalopolis to reveal in a press release the broad outlines of the scenario of what could cause a sensation on the Croisette: Megalopolis is a Roman epic in an imaginary modern America in full decadence. The city of New Rome absolutely must change, which creates a major conflict between Caesar Catilina, a genius artist with the power to stop time, and the arch-conservative mayor Franklyn Cicero. The first dreams of an ideal utopian future while the second remains very attached to a regressive status quo protective of greed, privilege and private militias. The mayor’s daughter and jet-setter Julia Cicero, in love with César Catilina, is torn between the two men and will have to discover what seems best for the future of humanity. »

This “Colisian” story has been matured for four decades by Coppola who financed with his own funds, to the tune of 130 million euros, this fresco which, according to early indiscretions, will immerse us in an America as modern as it is imaginary.

The distribution, as is often the case with the director of The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, will leave no one indifferent. Around Adam Driver, we will indeed find Giancarlo Esposito (Franklyn Cicero), Nathalie Emmanuel (Julia Cicero) but also Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Grave Vanderwaal, Kathryn Hunter and Dustin Hoffman.. .. in short the casting of a future Palme d’Or.
