On Monday, the Paris Criminal Court sentenced Kalash for rebellion, hit and run and contempt to one year in prison suspended, 5000 euros fine. In addition to this sentence, the rapper will have to pay 6,200 euros in damages: 2,900 euros for the police who arrested him and 3,300 euros for the occupants of the cars he hit. The musician has ten days to appeal this decision. On the night of March 16 to 17, 2019, the rapper was involved in a series of road accidents while he was on the Champs Elysées at the wheel of his Porsche. He was eventually arrested by law enforcement.
The hearing had been postponed six times according to the Outre-mer 1ère channel. At the start of the trial at the end of May, the Martinican rapper denied having been the victim of police violence during his arrest. “A policeman entered the vehicle, punched me and punched me in the throat with two fingers. My nose was broken and two teeth fell out. I was trying to struggle,” testified Kevin Valleray, alias Kalash, on May 23.
The violence allegedly took place in the car that was taking him to the police station. He also claimed to have been held up by the police with a stun gun. At the time, if he had recognized the “material damage caused” by the accident, he had filed a complaint against the police in the wake of his arrest. An investigation by the IGPN would have been opened.
On the night of March 16 to 17, 2019, Kalash is driving his luxury car on the Champs Élysées. Involved in a series of clashes, the musician was finally arrested by the police, under the gaze of passers-by, many of whom had filmed the scene. During the hearing, the public prosecutor had requested, in his requisitions, a suspended sentence of fifteen months in prison and a fine of 15,000 euros.
