To find you there, we present the films and highlights of the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
The high mass of cinema begins with the opening ceremony, orchestrated by actress Chiara Mastroianni, Catherine Deneuve’s daughter. The Quinzaine des cinéastes also opens on May 17, with the presentation of the Carrosse d’or to Malian director Souleymane Cissé. This demanding award has already been awarded to the biggest names in cinema such as Martin Scorsese in 2017 or Agnès Varda in 2010. The ceremony will be followed by the screening of Cédric Khan’s opening film, The Goldman Trial, which looks back on the very publicized by Pierre Goldman in the 1970s.
May 18 will be marked by the highly anticipated screening of the latest Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny with Harrison Ford premiering on the Croisette. Several films appearing in the parallel selections will be screened with a fine panel of stars: The new boy, in the Un certain regard selection with American actress Cate Blanchett, Eureka listed at Cannes Première, which includes the mistress of ceremonies Chiara Mostroianni as well as the French film Flo, which looks back on the tragic fate of navigator Florence Arthaud in the Cinéma de la plage selection. The film Omar la fraise by Elias Belkeddar with Reda Kateb and Benoît Magimel will be screened in Séance de Minuit out of competition.
It will also be an opportunity to watch the films in official competition, such as The Zone of Interest with German actress Sandra Hüller and Les filles d’Olfa by Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania. Director Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who has already won several awards at Cannes, will present his new feature film Les Herbes secs.
American director Martin Scorsese will walk the red carpet accompanied by his two favorite actors Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio to present his latest film Killers of the flower moon. Actresses Nathalie Portman and Julianne Moore will also be in the spotlight for Todd Haynes’ feature May December.
The Cannes Film Festival will pay tribute to filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard who died last year, who won the Palme d’Or in 2018 for The Picture Book. The film Godard par Godard directed by Florence Platarets, which paints a faithful portrait of the filmmaker, will be followed by the screening of a new short film entitled Funny Wars. Both films will be presented in the Cannes Classic category.

In the official competition, Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall starring Sandra Hüller and Fire Brand starring Jude Law, Michelle Williams and Alicia Vikandre will be screened.
Jessica Hausner will present her latest film Club Zero with actress Elsa Zylberstein seen in Simone: The Journey of the Century. Finnish filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki will unveil his 19th film entitled Dead Leaves. For his part, the Canadian composer Howard Shore, awarded three times at the Oscars for the soundtracks of Lord of the Rings will give a master class at the Palais des festivals according to Radio Classique. Stars Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd will also hit the red carpet to showcase their highly anticipated new HBO-produced series, The Idol.

Chambre 999, listed in the Cannes Classic selection, poses the question of the future of cinema to its greatest directors. This documentary brings together Wim Wenders, Monia Chokri, jury president Ruben Östlund and Alice Winocour, among others. For his part, filmmaker Nanni Moretti will present Il sol dell’avvenire, his ninth film in the official selection.
Tran Anh Hunh will unveil her new film, La passion de Dodin Bouffant starring Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel, which is competing for the Palme d’Or. Finally, Virginie Efira, winner of the César for best actress, presents Love and the Forests directed by Valérie Donzelli, classified in the Cannes Première parallel selection.
Another day but the same actress, Virginie Efira returns for another film, Nothing to Lose by Delphine Deloget selected in the Un certain regard category. She plays there alongside Félix Lefebvre, revealed to the general public in Summer 85. On this penultimate day of competition, it will be time to see the latest films in the running. La chimera, by Italian director Alice Rohrwacher with actors Isabella Rosselini and Alba Rohrwahler will be screened. American filmmaker Ken Loach will unveil The Old Oak, a film that could make him the first triple-awarded director in the history of the Cannes Film Festival.
Frédéric Tellier’s out-of-competition film, L’Abbé Pierre – Une vie de combats revisits the story of the founder of Emmaüs with actors Benjamin Laverhne, Emmanuelle Bercot and Michel Vuillermoz. Alex Lutz and Karin Viard round off the Un Certain Regard selection with Une nuit.
The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will end with the award ceremony during the closing ceremony. Disney and Pixar’s latest film, Elementary will also be unveiled after the ceremony with the French voices of Adèle Exarchopoulos and Vincent Lacoste.
