The concert film on the triumphant tour of American pop star Taylor Swift, which is already shaping up to be an event in cinemas in the United States on October 13, will be released the same day worldwide, including France.

In French cinemas, it will be broadcast by Pathé in a series of participating cinemas, including the Grand Rex in Paris, from Friday October 13 and during the following weekend, the company told AFP.

The AMC cinema chain had specified that Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, would be played in all the cinemas of its European subsidiary Odeon, present in particular in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Spain, and that it was in the process of negotiating agreements with other operators, aiming for the objective of distribution in 100 countries. “It’s not just the tour that’s global,” the 33-year-old singer confirmed on Instagram.

The announcement of the film’s release on August 31 had already heated up the counters, with 37 million dollars in pre-sale revenue from the first day, a record like the tour itself, which should exceed for the first time in history billion dollars in revenue. The film could bring in more than $100 million in North American cinemas for its first weekend of release, unheard of for a concert broadcast in theaters.

A true phenomenon in the United States, the singer breaks records with each new album release. This weekend, she also fueled rumors about her love life and a new relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce by appearing at a Kansas City Chiefs game alongside the mother of the player.

In France too, the broadcasting of concert films in cinemas is a growing trend. Long focused on opera, in recent years it has conquered other musical genres and humorous shows. “We feel the need to bring fans together after Covid,” Thierry Fontaine, the boss of Pathé Live, a specialist in this activity, told AFP.

His company recorded its biggest successes with concerts by Mylène Farmer (162,000 spectators in 613 cinemas in 2019) or the South Korean group BTS (1.6 million spectators in 4,500 cinemas in 2019). The releases will follow one another in France at an unprecedented pace at the end of the year, with an Orelsan concert in cinemas on Thursday at 8:00 p.m., before SCH on November 23 and -M- on December 7.
