Never two without three. Rage Against The Machine, a group mixing rock and rap, is breaking up. Again. Drummer Brad Wilk announced the cessation of activities of the American group in an Instagram post on the night of January 3 to 4.

“I know people are waiting for us to announce new tour dates for all the Rage Against the Machine (RATM) shows we canceled. I inform you that RATM will no longer go on tour and will no longer go on stage, declared the 55-year-old musician. I’m sorry to everyone who waited for this to happen. I really wish that were the case… From the bottom of my heart. Thank you to everyone who supported us.”

The concerts canceled in 2022 notably included a date at the Rock en Seine festival. The latter could not be ensured, due to an injury to Zack de la Rocha’s leg, which occurred during a previous show.

When Rage was inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame on November 4, only Tom Morello appeared at the ceremony. The guitarist then spoke of “different points of view” between the members of the group on “different things”.

Indeed, these are not the first tensions within the group. The quartet, formed in 1991 by guitarist Tom Morello, drummer Brad Wilk, bassist Tim Commerford and singer Zack de la Rocha, broke up for the first time in 2000, before reforming in 2007 for a series of dates , including a visit to Bercy and Rock en Seine the following year.

Same scenario in 2011, where the group announced a second separation, before planning a new tour in 2020. The latter will be postponed to 2022 due to the health crisis. And by force of circumstances, the injury to the singer’s leg will mark the end of this series of concerts but also of the group.
