Philippe Lacheau dropped the song in a short video posted on Instagram: his next film will be an adaptation of Marsupilami. It is with humor that the director of Alibi.com 2, one of the greatest successes of French cinema, this year, announced the news.
“A very important little video to let you know that we have started working on our next film” declares the filmmaker in the preamble to play on the suspense. “We can’t tell you anything except that it will be an adaptation. Afterwards, an adaptation of what? We prefer to keep the mystery” he continues in front of a mirror reflecting a plush of the fabulous animal.
The challenge is sizeable. Philippe Lacheau follows in the footsteps of Alain Chabat who, in 2012, also set about adapting the comic book by the brilliant André Franquin. Entitled Sur la piste du Marsupilami, the film brought together more than 5 million spectators in France.
Created in 1952, in the no less famous Spirou and Fantasio series, the imaginary animal with yellow fur dotted with black spots, endowed with Herculean strength and who lives in the Amazonian jungle of Palombia, in the region of the El Sombrero volcano , in Brazil, belongs to one of the most magical and exquisite creations in comics. Intrepid and facetious, the creature has seen its tasty adventures declined in various animated versions for the small screen since the 1990s. The song is not left out, the creature having been the subject of several songs, among which The song of the Marsupilami performed by Annie Cordy.
Regarding the new adaptation of Philippe Lacheau, the mystery is well kept on the casting and the date of filming. In Alain Chabat’s version, Jamel Debbouze shared the bill with Fred Testot, Lambert Wilson or Géraldine Nakache.
