He was among the most anticipated musical projects of the year 2023. Travis Scott finally unveiled his new album entitled Utopia this Friday. More than five years after his famous disc Astroworld, which inscribed in the memories the titles Sicko Mode or Highest in the room, the 32-year-old American rapper is making a comeback with a fourth studio album. This new opus delivers a tracklist with soaring and dark sounds, made up of 19 titles with multiple collaborations. For several weeks, the artist has continued to promote the event on his social networks and during his concerts. On July 21, the rapper released a first single from Utopia with a single titled K-POP. Accompanied by the voices of The Weeknd and Bad Bunny, the title has already accumulated 30 million plays on Spotify.
Travis Scott is behind many of the tracks on Utopia. But the one nicknamed “La Flame” has also surrounded himself with great producers and musicians. In this new project, fans of the rapper will be able to find the artistic touch of Kanye West (Power), Pharell Williams (Happy), passing by that of The Alchemist (RIP Tracy), Jahaan Sweet (Karma) or Buddy Ross (Running Around). The album is mixed and mastered by Mike Dean, the successful producer who was already present on Astroworld.
In Utopia, Travis Scott reveals an impressive list of featurings, with no less than 19 artists on the tracks. Kanye West, James Blake, Future, SZA, or even 21 Savage took part in the project. Beyoncé lends her voice on the track Delresto (Echoes) and Kid Cudi is also present on the title Looove. Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Sampha appear on My Eyes, while Canadian rapper Drake features on Meltdown. And to delight the French public, one of the Daft Punk robots also collaborates on Utopia. After the enthusiasm of recent months around Thomas Bangalter – member of the group – and the release of his orchestral album Mythologies, it is the turn of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Cristo – another member of the duo – to return to the front from the scene. The former Daft Punk collaborator co-produced the third track on the Modern Jam album.
For the promotion of Utopia, Travis Scott saw things big. The album is accompanied by a film entitled Circus Maximus, produced by A24 and released today in the United States. A trailer was posted on social media two days ago. To present his project, the artist was to give a concert at the foot of the Giza pyramids this Friday. But the event was canceled for two days due to “production issues”. Forced to find another venue for his show, the artist announces on his official website that he will soon be performing in Pompeii, Italy. At the moment, fans shouldn’t rejoice too quickly. No date has been confirmed by the Italian authorities.
