Actor Vincent Lindon shared this morning with our colleagues at France Inter the fears he feels about the war between Israel and Hamas: “It’s an explosion, I’m very worried.” This statement comes almost a week after the terrorist attack perpetrated by a Hamas commando which caused the death of more than 1,200 people, mostly civilians.

The French actor (La Crise, Titane) deplores the cruel acts suffered by Israelis on October 7 and in particular their consequences in France, already marked by an increase in anti-Semitic acts: “I feel deep sadness. “It’s the most violent thing I’ve ever experienced.”

The actor who says he has an “intellectual” attachment to Judaism would like a serene, philosophical reaction to the conflict: “I would give everything I have in the world to have the intelligence, the calm and the genius, to call for reflection, calm. I think unfortunately the opposite is happening.” But resolutely optimistic, despite everything, he retains the strength to say that he remains “sensitive to the situation of the Palestinians” and that “we can be two parties and both be right”.

Vincent Lindon also unfortunately believes that the exacerbation of minds is fueled by social networks, which he describes as a “cancer of civilization”. Optimistic by nature, he believed that these new vehicles of instant exchange could have brought about “a liberation of language” or even “modernism”. But he must note, “on the contrary”, they often carry “racism, homophobia and anti-Semitism”.
