An investigation was opened after a leak of personal data relating to job seekers compiled by a Pôle emploi service provider, the Paris prosecutor’s office said on Thursday. Informed by the National Commission for Computing and Liberties (Cnil), the section for the fight against cybercrime of the Paris public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation on Wednesday for fraudulent introduction and maintenance in an automated data processing system, entrusted to the Brigade fight against cybercrime (BL2C), according to the same source.
Pôle emploi had called on Wednesday in a press release job seekers to be vigilant, after “an act of cyber-maliciousness” of which one of its service providers was the victim. This is the Majorel company, the public body said on Thursday. “The surnames and first names, the current or former status of job seekers as well as the social security number of job seekers” are “likely to be disclosed”. However, e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, passwords and bank details are not affected.
“While this incident does not pose a risk to compensation or access to the pole-emploi.fr personal space, we invite you to remain vigilant in the face of any type of approach or proposal that could appear fraudulent” , writes Pôle emploi on its website. The organization notified the CNIL and had to send an email to all the jobseekers concerned.
