Film ‘Captain Marvel’ shaves currently high peaks in the cinema, and although Brie Larson it’s great to do as a superhero, Carol Denvers, is the most popular character there is, without a doubt, one on four legs. Goose, the red-light district, tomcat, was, according to the credits of the film ‘delivered’ by Animals For Hollywood. A little research, worth…

When you were making a movie, you can, of course, not just any animal to adopt for the job. “It is remarkably difficult to get an animal as a character to have, that is something that I’ve learned during the making of this film”, explains ‘Captain Marvel’-producer Jonathan Schwartz.

“Certainly an animal that is so important for the plot as a Goose. He often comes into the picture. And you have to have not just one cat need, hey. You have a very A-team of cats, each of which is a area of specialization.” In total, there were for ‘Captain Marvel’ four cats taken in service: Gonzo, Rizzo, Archie and Reggie, as they are in the really called. “You have a cat that you can keep a cat against the legs of sanding, a cat that you can lash out and then you have just the “face cat”, the animal with the cutest nose that will be used on all posters and close-ups. In our case, this is Reggie. Him we call the ‘heldenkat’, because he’s the cat is that viewers will recognize as the Goose. He also has the most experience with film work.”

Four cats on the set, for inconvenience? “No, Samuel L. Jackson was gék on them,” laughs Schwartz. “He has the most scenes with Goose, and the chemistry between them on screen was completely authentic. It is, however, so that scenes that you are shooting with animals is a lot of work, they follow no direction like humans do. A shot of five seconds can take an hour to film.”

“They are trained with noises”, Schwartz continued. “A certain kind of noise means “running”, another means “jump” … They know thanks to their training that they are a reward for get. It is always a bit of a work in progress , because it continue to kátten which you are working.”

Between shots stays the critters in their own air-conditioned lounge, where they are undisturbed to eat and sleep. The onsite staff makes sure that they are sufficiently amusing, thanks to springs that are attached to strings. Occasionally there may also be journalists on a visit to see the animals from closer view. Some of them are also trained to clean to remain sitting during interviews.
