“Austria: early elections possible only in the autumn”

“After yesterday’s upset in Austria where the government burst in after the country’s vice chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache made a fool of himself waiting for new elections in the central european country.”

“But the road is not straight and new elections can be expected only in the autumn.”

“For a new election to be possible, the first parliament, the Nationalrat, dissolved, and it requires three sessions. At the first application shall, if the resolution is submitted, it shall then be referred to a committee at a second sitting. After the committee met, the decision is taken at a third session. The process takes around a week.”

“Then, the council of ministers and the main committee may decide an end date and a day of election, between them there must be at least 82 days. The earliest possible date for a new election is August 18, but according to observers it is unlikely that there will be a new election before the middle of september.”
