Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Sunday he was “good hope” that Tesla boss Elon Musk would invest in a future project in France. “I have good hopes that Elon Musk will make an investment in France,” he declared on LCI on the occasion of the Economic Meetings of Aix-en-Provence. “He knows he is welcome in France”, where he was received on several occasions by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and Bruno Le Maire.
Asked whether this investment would be specifically for batteries or electric cars, the minister replied that there were “several options on the table”. “It is he who will decide,” he continued about the boss of this pioneer company in electric cars, but also present in the space field via the SpaceX company.
In June, Elon Musk had reiterated his interest in France, considering “very likely” a future “important” project in the country, without however confirming the establishment of the battery factory desired by Emmanuel Macron. At the Choose France summit in mid-May in Versailles, the billionaire had already promised that Tesla would make “significant investments in France”. For now, nothing has come and his choice could also be Spain, almost four years after choosing Berlin for the first factory of the electric car manufacturer in Europe.
