The Minister of Public Service, Stanislas Guerini, opened the door on Tuesday to a discussion on the revaluation of the lowest salaries in the public service.
“‘It’s a discussion that we must have: how do we focus our efforts perhaps to better support those who are entering the grid’ in the public service, and who are experiencing “the full brunt of the impact of inflation ”, in particular that of the prices of basic necessities, declared the minister on Public Senate.
On the other hand, the minister did not advance on a possible general revaluation of the index point, the common basis of remuneration for the 5.7 million public officials, nor on the sectors possibly targeted.
For the unions, with whom the government must lead discussions throughout the first half of 2023, the discussion on wages is one of the priorities. With inflation at 6%, the general increase of 3.5% granted in the summer of 2022 is deemed insufficient by the eight representative unions.
The government had already decided to give a boost of 1.8% on January 1 for the lowest paid agents, the fourth increase in the lowest salaries in fifteen months. In 2021, Amélie de Montchalin, then Minister of Transformation and Public Service, had also announced an increase in the salary of category C civil servants, from 40 to 100 euros net per month, for the three sides of the function. public (State, hospital and territorial). The measure targeted the 1.2 million civil servants with the lowest salaries, such as administrative staff, roadmenders and reception staff.
