The Eugène Perma group, specializing in hair products and owner of the Pétrole Hahn brand, announced on Wednesday that it had been placed in receivership, specifying that the candidates for its takeover had until September 4 to make themselves known. The company was placed in receivership on August 1 by the Paris Commercial Court, confirming information from the Fashionnetwork site.

The group says it has been “weakened” by “a succession of crises since 2018 after a supply chain problem” which was followed by “the health crisis and then inflation”, all leading to “significant debt and deterioration margins”. At the end of 2022, Eugène Perma “launched a process of seeking capital partnerships”, but “last May, tensions with certain creditors” led to a breakdown in ongoing discussions, “which precipitated things”, indicated a spokesperson.

The judicial administrator in charge of the file specified that the group currently has 245 employees in France and 20 abroad, and that the candidates for the takeover had until September 4 to submit their project. In 2022, the group had achieved a turnover of 83.7 million euros (compared to 86.2 million a year earlier), for a net loss of 8.5 million euros (compared to -122.00 euros in 2021 and after a profit of 29,000 euros in 2020).

The company, founded in 1919 by the hairdresser and inventor of the permanent wave Eugène Sutter, developed several hair products before buying the famous brand of lotions and shampoos for men Pétrole Hahn in 1998. Joined the company in 1984, Didier Martin became its CEO in 1995 before buying the company and becoming its majority shareholder.
