Bad news for consumers. Since Tuesday, Netflix users will have to pay a little more to watch programs on the platform, without being interrupted by advertising breaks. The American video streaming giant has just removed its “Essential” plan, offered at 10.99 euros per month.
This was the cheapest ad-free offer in France. “Current subscribers to the Essential offer are not affected by this change. New members or those changing plans will be able to choose from our different subscription plans designed to meet the different needs of viewers, including Standard with advertising at 5.99 euros,” says a Netflix spokesperson.
If new users prefer to skip advertising, they will have the choice between two options. The first, called Standard, is available at a price of 13.49 euros per month. Which amounts to an increase for future subscribers of… 23%, compared to the “Essential” formula. At this price, they will be able to use up to two devices at a time, compared to one with the Essential offer. On October 18, the streaming service had already increased its prices: by 2 euros for the Essential package. In the space of two months, the price increase for the cheapest ad-free subscription has increased by 50%.
Consumers will also be able to turn to the Premium formula, the most expensive which also increased in October from 17.99 euros to 19.99 euros. the latter offers the possibility of accessing four devices at once.
Netflix is not the only one to have recently increased its prices. YouTube Music, Amazon Music Unlimited… On November 1, all current Disney subscribers were also switched to a new offer, called Premium, at 11.99 euros per month… or 3 euros more.
