This is the record for an impressionist work of art broken. That leaves the auction house Sotheby’s today know. It is also going to be a record sum for a work by the French impressionist.

Seven candidates competed for eight minutes for ‘Meules’, one of the iconic paintings of haystacks in Giverny. The highest bidder offered eventually 110,7 million dollars, converted 98,77 million euro.

During the sale Tuesday in New York was a price extracted “which is 44 times higher than the previous record of the work”, it sounds still.
