Île-de-France surface transport, i.e. the bus and tram network, will return to the depot no later than 10 p.m. on Tuesday, an hour later than on previous days, “to preserve the safety of agents and travelers”, indicated Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM). “In consultation with the police headquarters, all trams and buses in Île-de-France will be stopped again no later than 10 p.m. this (Tuesday) evening, where their service will be completely interrupted”, writes the regional authority of the transportation in a brief statement.
“This measure, with a new timetable, is renewed to preserve the safety of agents and travelers”, explains IDFM, which invites “travellers to anticipate their trips now”, Tuesday afternoon. Targeted last Wednesday during the riots that rocked the region, Ile-de-France trams and buses have returned to their garages early every day since Thursday evening. Some lines stop their service at the end of the afternoon.
Forty buses and a tram were destroyed in the region during the riots that followed the death of young Nahel on June 27 in Nanterre. The riots caused “at least 20 million euros in damage” to public transport in the region, according to an initial estimate from IDFM, given on Monday. Traffic remains interrupted on the entire T5 tram line, due to damage to the track.
