“if you Dream about a own vegetable garden in the summer – but are unsure how to start? Gardener Sara Flego provides answers on how to succeed with your garden plot!”
“In the year should it happen. This should be created as a private garden rich of vegetables. A never-ending pantry with fresh, organic, and truly locally grown vegetables. But how do you do? Gardener Sara Flego give their best tips for success with the cultivation.”
“How big should my garden be?”
“the Gardener’s answer: It depends of course on how much you want to grow and how much space you have. To get an idea of how much space you will need, you can be deleted from the vegetables you have chosen. Check how big the range and plantavstånd they need and figure out the surface on the basis of it. If you feel unsure, I think you can start with some pallet collars, they are a bit easier to manage and you have a clear, defined area. Then you can expand as you feel you need more place to your cultivation.”
“How will I choose the vegetables?”
“the Gardener answer: The most important thing is to grow things you like to eat! Then the harvest is always to and furthermore it will be more fun to grow. It can also be fun to take the opportunity to grow things that are not available to buy in grocery shop. It need not be some weird or svårodlade things, but just the other varieties of our common vegetables. Maybe a white or round zucchini? There are many old heritage varieties and new, foreign varieties which are not so usual but very exciting and good. Then, I think you also should mix in some flowers in the vegetable cultivation! If you choose edible flowers such as marigold or nasturtium it becomes both beautiful and good. Just remember to choose annuals varieties so that they are not in the way before the next year’s sowing. A few, light, and very grateful vegetables are potatoes, crisphead lettuces, peas and radishes. Zucchini and pumpkin are both easy and fun if they get proper space to spread out on.”
“What is crop rotation and how important is it?”
“the Gardener answers: crop Rotation means that you plan your farm so that a crop does not grow in the same place in the vegetable plot as it did the year before. It allows you to reduce the risk of diseases and pests. The crop rotation is more important for some plants than for others, for example, cabbage should not grow in the same place two years in a row. For other varieties, it is not as critical, but it is still good to move around varieties in the country prior to a new growing season. You must nevertheless in no way plan your cultivation, so I recommend to plan the crop rotation in connection with it. A four-year crop rotation usually works fine. Group the plants after the nutritional needs and the extant family of flowering plants. To the next growing season moves you just each group a step in the same direction. Then you have created a simple but efficient crop rotation and your plants will feel good in the earth.”
“How much time requires for a vegetable garden?”
“the Gardener answer: A greater cultivation of course requires more time while a minor is more easily managed, but regardless of the crop size is the actual preparation stage is the most time consuming, with planning, buying, sowing and planting. Some plants may need to förodlas indoors, which takes a bit of time. When all of the seeds and seedlings then are in the earth shall be watered, cleared weeds and removed the snails – the latter is, unfortunately, it can take the most time. If it gets properly warm weather, vegetable garden need water every day, so if you travel it is good to have a neighbor or friend that can come by and water it.”
