Presented by the government as an important step forward in the fight against fraud, the generalization of electronic invoicing for businesses has been postponed indefinitely, the Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFiP) announced on Friday. “It was decided to postpone the entry into force of the system, scheduled for July 1, 2024, in order to give the time necessary for the success of this structuring reform for the economy”, indicates this direction of the Ministry of the Economy and of Finance in a press release.
“The date of the postponement will be defined as part of the work to adopt the finance law for 2024” which will be presented at the end of September by the government, specifies the DGFiP. Eventually, the digitization of invoices sent to each other by companies should concern no less than 4 million companies. The DGFiP estimates that the generalization of electronic invoicing will “eventually” save 4.5 billion euros for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The objective of the reform is both to lighten the administrative burden on companies, to strengthen the fight against fraud and to “improve real-time knowledge of the business economy”, according to the terms of the press release.
