The fall in unemployment continues at the start of 2023. In the first quarter, the number of job seekers in category A (without any job) fell further in France (excluding Mayotte), by 1.2%, a announced the Dares this Wednesday. Over one year, the decline reached 5.9%, according to the statistical service of the Ministry of Labour. On average over the first three months of the year, there were 3.016 million unemployed people registered with Pôle emploi in category A.
In detail, in mainland France, the decline concerns the 25-49 age group (-1.4%) and the 50 years and over (-1.7%), while unemployment is increasing slightly among those under 25 ( 0.5%). By geographic area, almost all regions experienced a decline in unemployment this quarter. Only Corsica is experiencing an increase (2.5), while the number of category A applicants is stagnating in Hauts-de-France (0%) and Normandy (0.1%). By adding the people registered with Pôle emploi who carry out a reduced activity (categories B and C), we reach in the whole of France (excluding Mayotte) 5.369 million people (-0.4% in the first quarter, -3% over one year) . And 6.110 million if we take all of the people registered with Pôle Emploi, including people who are not required to look for a job.
