Let’s go for the winter sales, particularly anticipated in an inflationary context. While ready-to-wear has been suffering a series of bankruptcies for several months and commerce is trying to resist inflation, the winter sales are launched at 8 a.m. this Wednesday in most departments of France. metropolitan area, as well as in Martinique, Guyana or Mayotte. And this, until Tuesday February 6 inclusive.
If the date of Wednesday January 10 was chosen as the official date for the start of the sales, they nevertheless started a little earlier in certain departments. This is particularly the case in Meurthe-et-Moselle, Moselle, Meuse and Vosges, where sales have been running since Tuesday January 2 and until Monday January 29 inclusive.
There are also some specificities overseas, where the sales dates extend from Saturday January 6 to Friday February 2 in Guadeloupe, from Wednesday January 17 to Tuesday February 13 in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon (975) and from Saturday May 4 to Friday May 31 in Saint-Barthélemy (977) and Saint-Martin (978). Same thing in Reunion, where the next sales are the summer sales, which will take place between Saturday February 3 and Friday March 2 inclusive.

As a reminder, sales are periods when merchants reduce the prices of all or part of their stock, which “must be held more than one month before the start of the sales” according to the service-public.fr website, which reminds in addition that they can equally apply “for stores as well as for professional online sales sites” and “must be accompanied or preceded by advertising”.
Furthermore, it is important to note that “merchants are not obliged to participate in sales, nor to reduce the prices of their entire stock”. But for each sale product, “the price before the sales and the new reduced price must appear clearly”. Same thing on the internet, where “the distinction between sale and non-sale items must clearly appear”.
Except for exceptions, when the price reduction announcement is the same “across an entire department or the same type of product”. In this specific case, the reduction “can be made by cash discount” and the indication of the reduced price is therefore “not obligatory”.
