The Velezana Magazine, one of the most important symbols of Los Velez, is also a national reference for cultural matters. This historical magazine presented its 40th edition today under the auspices of the Cloister of the Almeria Cathedral. It is one of the most significant and important places in the province of Almeria. Conce Perez, the provincial delegate of Culture, Almeria, Eloisa Cabrarera, and Jose Domingo Lentisco (coordinator of the Velezana Magazine), were present.

Revista Velezana’s varied content has spawned the main themes of culture and history of the Velez region. Supported by the Institute of Almeria Studies of the Diputacion Provincial since 1982, the publication is in continuous development. Its quality and quantity have increased since the first edition.

Manuel Guzman, the deputy for Culture and Cinema has said that the magazine is “without a doubt” a leader in terms of traditions and customs from one of the most beautiful regions of the province. Today is an opportunity to celebrate 40 years of magazine. Since the beginning, the Diputacion (Institute of Almeria Studies) has been working with us. It is, without a doubt, a reference magazine at both a national and regional level>>.

Conce Perez, who is also the Velez Rubio City Council’s Provincial Deputy and Councilor of Culture, stated that this date was a great accomplishment because of the 40-year-old survival of a magazine, which has been expanding, modifying, and enlarging in content, writers, and readers. We are the oldest local studies magazine anywhere in Andalusia. It is, for us, the most important cultural resource in the region.>

Jose Domingo Lentisco (coordinator of Velezana Magazine) has stressed the importance to have a variety of content. Two things are important to me. The first is the main theme, which is about social change in Los Velez and Almeria in 40 years. The second article is about the VelezBlanco castle. It is an iconic landmark of the province and an endless source of research>>.

Eloisa Cabrera was the delegate for Culture of the Junta de Andalucia Almeria. She said that “it is important that all administratives work for the cultural of Almeria. In this case, the work done by both the City Council and the Diputacion de Almeria has been valued as a very important portion of our province>>.
