José Antonio Álvarez, who will step down as CEO of Santander on January 1, 2023 to take up a non-executive vice-presidency, has pointed out that “after 20 years in the group and eight as CEO, I think the time is right to leave my executive functions”, in a letter to the staff sent this Friday.
