While vegetables are the unbeaten healthiest foods with classics such as kale, broccoli, peas and more, you may be wanting something a bit sweeter. Most of the time if you’re dieting or simply want to stay in shape, you can’t turn to candy or sweets. That’s where fruits come in.
Some fruits, of course, have the well being of being healthier than others but it can be almost impossible to tell just by taste, sight or smell. Finding out which ones are healthy is almost like betting on the river in online poker. Luckily, of course, someone already figured it out for you and put it in this helpful list!
Apples
First up is apples! This couldn’t be a healthy fruit list without apples – they weren’t lying when they said ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’. Everyone’s had an apple whether it be a Granny Smith, Golden Delicious or a Honeycrisp but did you know that studies suggest that the antioxidants in apples can promote better heart health and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer’s? I guess an apple a day really does keep the doctor away.
Pomegranates
Moving away from such a well-known fruit are pomegranates. Filled with edible seeds and goodness they are among the healthiest fruits you can eat. Not only are they nutrient-dense, but they also contain powerful plant compounds that are responsible for most of their health benefits. Best of all (if you need it of course) pomegranate juice is one of the greatest things to drink while dealing with kidney stones.
Le Avocado
It’s avocado time! It’d be impossible to forget one of the most carb friendly fruits on the planet! With barely nine grams of carbs per hundred grams of fruit you really can’t go wrong with avocados. Filled with potassium, fiber and magnesium avocados are an amazing snack that goes well in guacamole or just on toast.
De Lemon
Lemons are amazing. Just a minuscule amount of lemon juice can quench your thirst in seconds. Also filled with vitamin C, lemon water is really sounding good about now. But to add to that, even more researchers believe that the flavonoids in lemon have antibacterial, anticancer, and antidiabetic properties.
Blueberrys
We can’t forget a little man and which fruit is smaller than the blueberry? Did you know blueberries can help you shed weight? That’s right. Scientists have begun studying blueberries and their potential to help reduce body fat. While blueberries have been well-documented for their cognitive and cardio-protective benefits, new research suggests that blueberries may change the way we metabolize fat and sugar.
Recent study findings suggest that blueberries may influence genes which regulate fat-burning and storage, helping reduce abdominal fat and lower cholesterol. When combined with a low-fat diet, blueberries might also improve blood sugar levels, as part of a comprehensive weight loss plan. Of course, added on with the fact that they’re packed with an impressive amount of vitamin C, vitamin K and manganese they’re not such a little man after all.
Banananananananana
Where’s Adam West when you need him?
Bananas can’t be forgotten! Delicious, long, yellow and mildly radioactive, they’re a worldwide classic fruit and pretty healthy too. While not quite as carb friendly as our friend the avocado it’s filled with potassium – a vital vitamin for your body.
Grapefruit
Last, but definitely not least, is the grapefruit. While perfect as a breakfast treat with a little sugar sprinkled on top it is also a great source of your daily vitamins and minerals. With the added bonus of a significant reduction in insulin levels and reduced insulin resistance.
That means that for diabetics and it can be a tasty and healthy way to help with your condition. Also, eating grapefruit has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels and help prevent kidney stones. Really it’s probably one of the best things to eat on this list.
